2013 SK Elections: Requirements and Schedule

Commission on Elections (Comelec) has scheduled the 2013 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections together with Barangay Elections on October 28, 2013 all over the Philippines, and the details on voters registration, requirements and filing of candidacy are posted here.

The synchronized barangay and SK elections are governed by Republic Act 9164, which amends certain provisions of LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE OF 1991 regarding the SK elections.

SK Elections 2013 schedule

  • Election Date: October 28, 2013
  • Voters Registration: July 22 to 31, 2013
  • Filing of Candidacy: To be announced

Registered voters for SK Elections get to vote for an SK Chairman and 7 SK Kagawads. Here are the qualifications:

Qualifications for SK Voters and Candidates

SK Voters (Katipunan ng Kabataan)

  • Filipino citizens actually residing in the barangay for at least six (6) months
  • At least fifteen (15) years old but less than eighteen (18) years old on Election Day
  • duly registered in the list of the sangguniang kabataan or in the official barangay list in the custody of the barangay secretary

SK Candidates

  • Filipino citizens
  • At least fifteen (15) years old but less than eighteen (18) years old on Election Day
  • Able to read and write Filipino, English or the local dialect
  • Qualified members of the Katipunan ng Kabataan of the Barangay where they intend to run for office and residents thereof for at least one (1) year immediately preceding the election
  • Must not have been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude

Earlier, Comelec said that they will do manual counting in the upcoming Barangay and SK Elections. Terms of Barangay and SK Officials will be 3 years.
