Facebook Home UI Demoed on a Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Facebook unveils its new “home” on Android smartphones Thursday, with Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg saying that the future is going mobile.

“It is really clear from the stats and my own personal intuition that a lot of energy in the ecosystem is going to mobile, not desktop (computers),” Zuckerberg said.

Android, the free mobile operating system from Google, accounted for 51.2% of US smartphone sales in the three-month period ending in February, according to freshly-released survey results from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. Android added 5.9 percentage points from a year earlier, while Apple’s share fell 3.5 points to 43.5%. Windows phone meanwhile, increased its share to 4.1% after releasing a new operating system last year.
