First Lady Michelle Obama is reportedly being counted among the victims in a string of recent high-profile personal security breaches.
On Monday, TMZ first reported that upwards of 12 celebrities and political figures — like Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Ashton Kutcher and Paris Hilton — had been hacked. Financial and personal information, including social security numbers, bank accounts, mortgage information and credit card details, were “doxxed” (posted online) to the website Exposed.su by a group of Russian hackers.
The hackers published social security numbers, telephone numbers, addresses and credit reports of prominent people such as Joe Biden, the vice president and Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state.
Others listed on the page included FBI Director Robert Mueller, Attorney-General Eric Holder, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck, and also entertainment celebrities Beyonce, Ashton Kutcher and Jay-Z amongst others.
Three leading personal credit-monitoring agencies, Transunion, Equifax and CreditKarma, acknowledged the files were accessed illegally, but said it was done through other firms by someone using the personal data of the victims, and not by hacking their own computers.
The Secret Service and the Los Angeles Police Department has said that they are also investigating the matter.
