World’s Oldest Man Dies at 114 – Guinness Book of World Records certified world’s oldest man Walter Breuning passed away on Thursday in Great Falls, Montana at the age of 114 years and 205 days.

Stacia Kirby of the Rainbow Senior Living retirement home where Breuning lived for the last 30 years told the Associated Press that the super centenarian died of natural causes at a Great Falls hospital. Breuning had been brought to the Benefis East hospital on March 31 for an undisclosed illness. Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, who was close to Breuning, said he was saddened by the passing of his friend. “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend and a great Montanan, Walter Breuning,” Schweitzer said in a statement.

Breuning, who was born in Melrose, Minnesota, on September 21, 1896, attributed his longevity to a life in moderation. Breuning revealed in an interview years earlier that he had been eating only two meals a day–breakfast and lunch–for the past 35 years.

The Guinness declared Breuning the world’s oldest man in July 2009 after the death of England’s Henry Allingham at the age of 113. Japan’s Jiroemon Kimura, who turns 114 on Tuesday, inherits Breuning’s title.
