John Branca Attorney at Law and More

While entertainment lawyers are usually less renowned than the acts they represent, John Branca is somewhat of an exception — named Lawyer of the Year by Billboard Magazine, Branca is a distinguished legal professional heavily dedicated to protecting and representing creators across the globe. However, he consistently gives back to the people and communities around him. Here are three of John Branca’s most notable career achievements outside of practicing law.

MusiCares

Established in 1989 by John Branca and jazz sensation Buddy Arnold, MusiCares was originally started as the Musicians Assistance Program. This service was designed to help musicians and members of the music industry to overcome drug and alcohol addictions. Additionally, the program also provided support with finances, medical issues and personal crises. Even further, the program focuses on things like senior housing, youth outreach and community leadership. MusiCares offers pop-up hearing clinics backstage at a wide variety of concerts and musical events to provide hearing protection and medical support for performers. Branca serves as Chair Emeritus for the program, and was honored with a Service Award from the Grammy Foundation in 2012.

Club 42

John Branca was closely connected to Jackie Robinson through his uncle Ralph, who played alongside Robinson on the Brooklyn Dodgers. This connection is what inspired Branca to co-found Club 42, a youth sports program honoring the late Robinson. The club has raised over $1 million in funds for sports, dance, music and even esports for children across Los Angeles. Club 42 is also heavily involved in providing educational opportunities for the city’s youth, offering tutoring and academic support, tuition awards, STEM classes and much more. Alongside the club, Branca also happens to be director of the Jackie Robinson Foundation

Boards and Committees

As a member of several committees and boards in the music industry, John Branca plays a very active role in the entertainment world. He is currently on the Board of the Grammy Museum, which preserves and teaches the history of the award show and its many winners. He is also on the Board of Trustees of Occidental College, a private liberal arts institution in Los Angeles. Branca is on the Executive Committee for UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion Renovation Campaign Committee, which aims to transform the namesake pavilion into a multicultural sports and arts center.

While John Branca Attorney at law is a highly distinguished legal professional, his philanthropic body of work is as impressive as his musical clientele.
