PBA: Ali Peek Shot in the Neck | Stable Condition
Update:
Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player Ali Peek, who was shot by an unidentified assailant Monday, is now conscious and in stable condition, Talk N’ Text coach Chot Reyes said Monday.
Ali Peek is a center and occasional power forward who plays for Talk N’ Text.
“The Talk N’ Text family asks d public to respect their privacy at this time. Further details will be released as they become available,” Reyes added through his Twitter account @coachot.
Ali Peek, who plays center for the Talk N Text club in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), was shot in the neck by a lone gunman last night at the parking lot of the RFM Gym in Pioneer St. Mandaluyong City.
Peek, 36, one of the approachable players in the pro league despite his huge 6-foot-4 frame, was brought to The Medical City in Pasig City.
Talk ’N Text team manager Aboy Castro said the Fil-American was “conscious and in stable condition.”
A member of the coaching staff, who asked not to be named as he is not authorized to discuss the matter, said that the incident occurred at around 7 p.m. after Peek finished working out at the Gym.
Peek was walking to his car after the training session with John Aquino. The gunman, according to reports, fired one shot from behind.
“Ali didn’t even fall after he was shot. He was able to call us (coaches) through his cell phone. Good thing, his personal trainer was there and saw him,” said the source. “What happened was really, really shocking since Ali is a very nice guy.”
“He’ll be operated (to remove the bullet). Good thing it missed a major artery,” he added.
The source also said that they don’t know somebody who has a personal grudge against the Fil-American.
Peek entered the PBA in 1998 as the No. 3 overall pick in the PBA Rookie Draft. He played college ball at St. Mary’s College in California.
Peek helped Talk ’N Text to two championships last season.
