According to Korean Herald, Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) issued the $175 million contract to Hanwha after winning the bid against China’s Jiangsu International and Philippines’ EEI Corporation. The contract was signed on August 4, 2011 and ground-breaking ceremony was held in Bulacan on August 17, 2011.
Hanwha Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kim Hyun-chung and INC Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo, along with other dignitaries were present during the ground-breaking ceremony.
According to reports, the construction of the arena, named Philippine Arena, will take around 30 months to complete. It is expected to be finished by early 2014. When completed, the 50,000-seat arena will become the largest domed arena in the world, Hanwha reportedly said.
“The facilities will be built on 74,000 square meters of land and will be three times bigger than the Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Stadium, the country’s largest indoor arena,” a Hanwha official was quoted as saying.
